What are the uses of adhesive copper tape?

Adhesive copper tape has numerous applications. Here we list some of the most common and some surprising uses too.

What are the uses of adhesive copper tape?

Copper tape is used primarily for wrapping and insulating wire circuits and electromagnetic shielding. There are other perhaps more common uses which we outline below…

Adhesive copper tape is integral to PDAs and PDPs as well as in the manufacture of LCD monitors, smartphones and other mobile devices. Antenna production, duplicating machines and low-profile transmission lines (surface mounted) in electronics.

Diamond Coatings supply copper tape as part of our range, but we also specialise in ITO (Indium Tin Oxide) coatings and copper tape is used to fix & seal ITO coated windows into their apertures.

Electromagnetic interference (EMI) can cause issues in certain situations, causing excessive electronic feedback and damaging delicate components. By creating a conductive grounded enclosure (aka Faraday cage) around these components using copper tape, they remain protected.

In the art and hobby world, adhesive copper tape also has quite a few applications. Wall art is becoming more popular, with copper tape being used to create striking large scale geometric designs.

It is also used to create metallic borders around pieces of art and stained glass enthusiasts are using copper tape to provide a guideline when soldering each piece together.

Forget your nasty poisons which really are not great for either your garden or the environment, you can protect your plants and shrubs from unwanted slimy visitors by applying some copper tape to either a plant pot or trough, or even the trunk of a bush or tree. Trust us, slugs and snails really do not like copper tape!

When a slug passes over a strip of copper tape, its slime reacts and causes a minor shock, just enough to deter the slime riddled beast from having a go at your plants.

In the fast-moving world of Formula One racing, copper tape has a very important role. When a car comes in for a pit stop, it is mandatory that the car is grounded before refuelling can commence. On each pit lane it is common to see strips of copper tape which ground the car and the fuel rig, and prevent any electrostatic discharge – When refuelling, this is clearly something you want to remove.
