PET (polyethylene teraphthalate) film, a thermoplastic polymer, is commonly known as polyester film. Either bubble extruded or biaxially oriented, PET films are among the converting industry's most commonly used substrates, mainly due to their balance of properties in comparison to varying other thermoplastic polymers.

PET Film Properties

Comparable or superior to other thermoplastics in terms of density, melting point and elongation; oxygen permeability, tensile strength and tear strength, as well as insulation breakdown, vapour (water) transmission rate and dielectric constant; dimensional stability and service temperature range, PET films have mechanical properties that make them the perfect choice as a processing substrate (vacuum coating, laminating or metallizing, for instance). They can also be engineered for a wide variety of specific applications which, combined with their processing tolerance, makes them an ideal substrate for many different applications in industries including:

  • Surface Protection Films/ Protective Films/ Hard-coats
  • Security/ Tamper Evident Films
  • Printable films
  • Photovoltaic back-sheets
  • Packaging films
  • Labelling/ Label Face-stocks
  • Insulation films

ITO Coated Polyester Film

Coating transparent PET film with indium tin oxide (ITO) maintains the film’s transparency, but makes the surface conductive. This makes ITO coated polyester film suitable for a range of applications, including as a touch screen/ position sensor component; for EL (electroluminescent) lamps, electrophoretic displays and EMI shielding; liquid crystal devices, transparent heaters and smart windows.

Diamond Coatings (DC) offer a broad range of ITO coated polyester film with a standard thickness of 175 micron. Available in roll (up to 600 mm wide) and sheet (standard sheet size is 600 mm by 457 mm) form, as well as laser cut shapes, DC ITO coated polyester film comes in three standard sheet resistance options:

  • 18 ohms/sq
  • 50 ohms/sq
  • 100 ohms/sq

In order to aid with handling and fabrication, it is also available with a protective film on both surfaces.
