Anti-Reflection Coatings On Plastic

Anti-Reflection coatings on plastic provide enhanced optical performance by reducing reflection and glare which gives a clear, sharp image under a range of lighting conditions.

Anti-Reflection Coatings On Plastic

The ’science bit’… Reflections will occur when light travels from one medium – in this example, air – to a second medium, for example plastic. The refractive index (how fast light travels) is different in these two mediums: Air has a refractive index of 1 and plastic has a refractive index of 1.5. This difference results in the visible reflection on the plastic.

Anti-Reflection Coatings On Plastic

Anti-Reflection coatings on plastic provide enhanced optical performance by reducing reflection and glare which gives a clear, sharp image under a range of lighting conditions.

Why is this important?

Anti-Reflection coatings are used in critical display applications such as aerospace and marine displays. In such environments, it is obviously crucial that optimum visibility is provided. Other areas of use include touch panels and screens, heater windows and medical control screens.

As well as an antireflective coating reducing unwanted reflections and glare, it also protects against fading and yellowing, caused by UV.

Diamond Coating Anti-Reflective options

The following anti reflective coating options are available from Diamond Coatings:

DIAMOND-AR – Multi-purpose to suit customers’ needs and is available on polycarbonate and acrylic substrates, as well as glass.

DIAMOND-AR WET – Acrylic sheet with dipped AR coating giving approximate reflection of 3%

DIAMOND-AR VAC – Vacuum deposited AR at various wavelengths to suit customer requirements with average reflection of 0.5%

DIAMOND-AR COND – ITO conductive coating combined with multilayer AR

Anti-Reflective PET Film

In addition to the above, anti-reflective options are also suitable for plastic films. Diamond Coatings AR1617 film is an anti-reflective coated polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film, perfect for digital displays and signage.

This high performing transparent thermoplastic ITO film has a high level of both transparency and conductivity, making it a viable choice over other coating options. Our Anti-Reflective ITO PET film comes supplied with an optically clear adhesive and can provided in sheet form, in continuous metre format on a roll or directly laminated on your chosen substrate.

The film has high UV resistance, with superior optical transparency and conductivity. It has excellent anti-static and abrasion resistance properties, as well as being a chemically resistant material.

The properties of ITO film have made it a popular choice for use in a large range of applications and products across many sectors.
