Polycarbonate ITO Sputtering

Polycarbonate ITO Sputtering

Based in Halesowen, Diamond Coatings produce a large variety of products including ITO coatings and Anti-reflective coatings on glass or plastic and polycarbonates. We have a state of the art magnetron sputtering plant on site.

We also manufacture mesh windows, monolithic RFI shielding filters on plastic or glass, capacitive or resistive touchscreens and anti-reflective films.

What is a Polycarbonate?

Polycarbonates are a stable and clear thermoplastic polyester with superior light transmission which are incredibly tough – approximately 250 times stronger than glass, and around 30 times stronger than acrylic, although acrylic may have even more superior optical properties.

With the advantage of light transmission and durability, polycarbonates are used commonly for plastic lenses in eyewear, automotive components, exterior lighting fixtures and medical devices. Polycarbonates are also used widely in the military and aviation industries.

What is ITO?

Indium Tin Oxide is a composition of indium, tin, and oxygen in different proportions. It has fantastic optical transparency and high electrical conductivity and can be deposited onto glass, plastics and thin films.

A good example of ITO in action would be a heated window, where a thin layer of ITO allows an electric current to pass over glass, providing heat to ensure optimum optical clarity.

What is Sputtering?

In layman’s terms, sputtering is a technique used to deposit thin layers of a material onto a surface (also known as a substrate). A gaseous plasma is created and from this ions are accelerated into a source material, or target. The target is eroded by the oncoming ions and is ejected in the form of neutral particles.

When these travelling particles come into contact with a substrate, they will coat the surface in a thin film.

Diamond Coatings Polycarbonate ITO

At Diamond Coatings, our substrates include glass, plastic and polycarbonates. Both flat and shaped, as well as a range of injected moulded parts, can be coated. Different grades of polycarbonate with properties such as flame retardant are available. We can also apply an anti-glare finish with a range of finishes to suit all applications.

We also supply ready-to-buy DIAMOX Indium tin oxide (ITO) Polycarbonate sheets with clear hard coating on both sides. The sheets are 2.0mm thick and come in sheet sizes of 100mm x 100mm, 150mm x 150mm, 300mm x 300mm. Click here to view product. Do you need more information from us?
